IFC Edit – Edit Many, Efficiently and Effectively

Today’s BIM models are not just geometry. They are first and foremost data. But what to do when the IFC file you receive contains incomplete, outdated or inappropriately assigned information? The solution is simple – IFC Edit.

This advanced plugin for BIMvision allows not only editing of individual properties, but also offers something much more effective: multi editing, i.e. the ability to collectively modify the data of multiple elements at the same time.

The most significant feature of the IFC Edit plugin is the multi-editing function, which allows multiple elements to be changed simultaneously. Property set names, properties as well as property values can be edited.

Multi-editing – saving time and guaranteeing consistency

With the multi-editing feature you can:

  • select multiple objects in the model for modification (e.g. all windows, elements on a given level or constructions of a given material),
  • edit or add properties for all of them at the same time,
  • assign new property sets en masse,
  • instantly correct erroneous data, e.g. contractor name, material code or group identifier.

All this without having to leave the BIMvision environment and without the risk of damaging geometry or changing other information in the model.

Application of IFC Edit in transport logistics

In practice, when you have a prefabricated IFC model containing prefabricated components, you may find that it lacks information relevant to, for example, the organisation of transport and assembly. This is a common situation, especially at the stage of preparing the delivery schedule. With IFC Edit, we can supplement such a model with additional data that will facilitate the assignment of elements to specific transports.

It is sufficient to create a customised Property Set with an appropriate parameter, e.g. ‘Transport’, which enables items to be logically grouped based on their assembly sequence or logistical requirements, e.g. size or weight. With this information, you can specify deliveries.

This approach significantly streamlines the planning process on the construction site, minimises the risk of errors and allows deliveries to be coordinated with the assembly schedule.

The result is clear information in the model for the assembly team and the logistics team. Anyone receiving such a model can see in which transport a specific group of elements will be delivered, so that assembly can then be performed on site according to the established schedule.

IFC EDIT – for whom?

  • For the developer who wants to complete the data before archiving or commissioning
  • For the contractor who needs to make changes quickly without the designer’s involvement
  • For the manager who completes the model with operational data
  • For the BIM coordinator who ensures the quality and consistency of the data in the models.

The IFC Edit plugin is designed for users who need fast, flexible and secure way to manage information in an IFC model. It enables efficient editing of given properties of model elements, allowing them to be completed, corrected or completely rebuilt to meet the specific needs of the developer, contractor or manager. The user is also able to create and assign new, customised property sets, making it possible to adapt the model to individual needs or project requirements.

IFC Edit supports both IFC2x3 and IFC4 standard files, and all changes can be saved in a new, modified IFC file, ready for further use.

Why is it worth it?

Because time is money and data is essential.

IFC Edit eliminates the need to repeat the same operations multiple times and allows you to work efficiently even on large models.

Manage the information in the model as you need it. Automate editing. Maintain quality.
