Download the new version of BIMvision 3.0.0!

Today we present the new version of BIMvision 3.0.0. We have introduced support for the IFC 4.4 format, added support for new features requested by users, and implemented Maintenance, which allows you to update to the next major versions of BIMvision. Learn about the most important changes and see how to use the latest functionalities.

The most important changes:

  • A grid has been introduced to facilitate navigation in large models
  • In the Options of the VIEW tab we have added:
    • Support for IfcOpening in the project tree in object types
    • Support for related documents and approvals
  • Possibility to copy GUIDs of selected objects
  • Support for Alignment in formats 4.1, 4.2, 4.3.
  • Rounding of numbers in Properties (Location/Dimensions) according to the settings in the MEASUREMENT tab of BIMvision
  • Added function for determining the vertical angle

To aid navigation around large, extensive models (e.g. infrastructure), a navigation grid has been introduced. It can be turned on and set in the VIEW tab under the Options button. Double-clicking on the distant grid field instantly moves the view to the indicated location. In this way, you can quickly and precisely zoom in on a part of the model when its characteristics make it difficult.

Service of Openings

Working on models with Openings requires handling this type of objects, e.g. for the purpose of using them in plugins. Support for Openings was implemented in version 3.0.0. Enabling support for Openings (VIEW->Options->Show->Openings) results in performing the same actions on them as on parent elements.

Thus, copying the GUIDs of parent elements will result in copying the GUIDs of Openings at the same time. Measurements made on the parent element will also include the openings belonging to it, unless they are unchecked.

Enabling Openings allows you to display their geometry (cutting element geometry) as well as select or preview them.

Copying GUIDs

Version 3.0.0 also added the ability to copy object GUIDs. After selecting an object or group of elements in the model, select the Copy GUID button or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+I (“I” as in the word “ID”). We can paste and save the copied identifiers, e.g. in a notepad, to use them later in a chosen way. The copied GUID numbers of the group of elements are separated by semicolons.

If the Openings display option is enabled, the GUIDs of all openings of the selected objects are also copied.

Vertical angle determination functions

In the Angle tab of the MEASUREMENT tab, two new angle measurement options have appeared:

1. Selecting two planes and determining the angle between them (Two planes

The angle lies in the plane defined by the two normal vectors of the selected planes

2. Determination of the vertical angle of a plane to the axis (Y axis

The angle between the horizontal axis and the projection of the normal to the plane onto the horizontal plane (the angle lies in the horizontal plane)

Possibility to enable/disable Dimensions in the Properties panel

BIMvision 3.0.0. allows you to enable/disable the generation of Dimensions. To display additional information in your IFC file in the form of this generated information, enable “Dimensions” in the Advanced Options of the program (FILE->Advanced Options) and restart BIMvision (Restart application). After selecting an element in the model, you will be able to read additional data from its geometry displayed in the “Location” tab in the “Dimensions” node.

**Note, if you have a .bvf file where there are no Dimensions saved, you can regenerate them by disabling “Use file cache” and enabling “Dimensions”.

Rounding numbers in Dimensions

Since the latest version, rounding of numbers displayed in Dimensions of the “Location” tab has been introduced according to the settings in the main BIMvision interface in the MEASUREMENT tab. So if you want only two numbers after the decimal point to appear in the generated values, adjust the rounding precision according to your needs in the BIMvsion MEASUREMENT tab.

Possibility to enable “Silent mode”

The new version of BIMvision also allows you to enable Silent Mode. Enabling this mode will prevent messages from appearing when opening files. This feature is especially important if you want to add many files at the same time, but you don’t want to confirm each pop-up window during the process. By enabling this option, you ignore the messages.

Version 3.0.0 of BIMvision also introduces support for Alignment in formats 4.0, 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, especially important for infrastructure models containing complex curves. The new release of the program also includes reading of documents and approvals related to the IFC model.
