The new version of the IFC Split 2.0 plugin introduces a range of features that streamline IFC model exports and enhance control over the scope of exported data. This enables a significant reduction in generated file sizes by removing specific data, as well as the customization of the export process to suit the model structure and the requirements for the subsequent use of the IFC data.
New plugin tools in version 2.0:
Export assemblies
This feature allows elements that form larger, logically linked structures to be included in the export process. This enables the user to better preserve the model’s organization and the relationships between individual components when creating an IFC file.
The new tool is particularly useful for models containing elements that are part of larger assemblies or systems.
Create .ifcZIP
The use of the .ifcZIP format allows you to limit the size of the resulting file, which may be particularly important in the case of large models. A smaller file means more convenient storage and transfer of models between participants in the design process.
Remove property sets
This option allows you to remove property sets from the exported model. Property sets can contain a large amount of information describing model elements; however, not all of this data is required depending on the file’s intended use. Removing property sets can therefore help reduce the IFC file size and prepare a simplified model for a specific application.
A Retain classifications sub-option is available, allowing you to retain classifications even while the rest of the property sets are removed.
Remove materials
This function allows you to omit material-related information during export, provided that its presence in the output file is not required (e.g., if the model is intended primarily for geometry analysis).
Remove all colors
This option allows you to remove information related to the colors and appearance of model elements. If colors are not required for the intended IFC application, removing them results in a more simplified file. This option is available when the Remove materials option is not enabled.
With the new features, IFC Split 2.0 enables better control over the exported model’s content and allows for the creation of lighter IFC files tailored to specific use cases. These features let the user determine the level of detail for the final IFC file; depending on requirements, one can either retain the full model structure or limit additional information, focusing instead on the data essential for subsequent stages of the process.
